Facing Power Crisis, China Backtracks on Unofficial Ban; Unloads Australian Coal Stranded at Ports

In 2020, Beijing declared an unofficial ban on coal imported from Australia. Little did Beijing know that its restriction on import of Australian coal could backfire. A year later, Beijing is struggling to combat massive power crunch stemming from coal shortage. Despite the unofficial ban, China has now turned to Australian coal stranded at its ports. An estimated 1 million tonnes of Australian coal had stayed in bonded warehouses along China’s coast. China is now reportedly unloading the vessels and releasing Australian coal. #ChinaCoalShortage. #ChinaCoalCrisis. #AustralianCoal
