Orpheus and Eurydice is one of the most tragic love stories we will ever know. Gluck masterfully wrapped it in detailed sadness. Then comes Pina Bausch. She deconstructs what is vague and , I think, haughty and makes the entire thing human. Each body expressing every emotion of this tragedy by proxy. What we have - what she gives us - is a visually stunning, groundbreaking performance which does no fail to present the agony of the libretto. the two singers into the is why she stands alone. You really must know the story in order to cry and suffer along, if you wish to dive in into such dark sadness. This was filmed at the Paris Opera Ballet in 2008. .This is one of two videos - please see the other. Pina Bausch came out and took a bow at the end. She died the following year leaving a trail of magnificent bread crumbs. I paid for this and it is here for the Conservatoire.
