Why are electricity and gas bills in Britain rising rapidly?

The decision by the government not to allow anybody do drill for oil or gas, let alone mine for coal, is having a serious impact on us all. It may well save us from heatstroke from global warming, but an awful lot of old people are more likely to die from hypothermia because they cannot afford to heat their homes.
