Group 1850 - Mother No-Head • TopPop

Group 1850 (sometimes also Group 1850) is a Dutch psychedelic group, emerged from The Hague band The Klits. They existed from 1966 to 1976 and made five albums during this period. The work of Group 1850 includes sounds from overdriven amplifiers, experiments with strange sounds, polyphonic singing, an Arabic-like guitar solo by Daniel van Bergen (on Dream of the future), rapidly changing rhythms, tape loops and other tricks with tape recorders (voices on different speeds), Gregorian-like choirs and vocals, wind instruments, etc. Group 1850 was founded by Daniel (Dean) van Bergen (1947-2012) and Peter Sjardin (deceased in 2015). On ’Mother No-head’ from 1967 the solo vocals are sung by their producer Hans van Hemert. The backing vocals are by Dick Doorn, Henk Janmaat and Pierre Biersma. The fact that the Urk Mannenkoor would sing along is based on incorrect information. This rare recording near the Blauwpoort and harbour of Dordrecht was made by AVRO’s famous pop tv-program ’Vjoew’ on May 13, 1968 Hans van Hemert’s commentaar: ’Om geschiedvervalsing te voorkomen, het koor bestond uit 3 man (sessiemuzikanten) t.w. Dick Doorn, Henk Janmaat en Pierre Biersma, aangevuld met Groep 1850 en mij. De stem in het begin is van Henk Janmaat. Het Urker mannenkoor heeft er niet aan meegewerkt. Hans van Hemert.
