Original “Where’s The Beef!?“ Wendy’s Commercial, January 10, 1984

This is the original “Where’s the Beef?“ commercial that Wendy’s first aired on January 10, 1984. Wendy’s campaign with this commercial became so popular, it became a national catchphrase and soon became a common term referring to most anything referring to sub par quality. The most ridiculous usage of the phrase was by former Vice President, Walter Mondale when he used it with his run for the office of President of the United States and competition among fellow Democrats for the nomination. In a competition with rival Gary Hart, Mondale used the phrase to show his policies had no real substance. Walter Mondale went on to win the Democrat nomination for President but lost in a historic and horrific landslide defeat by Ronald Reagan. In fact, Mondale only won The District of Columbia and his home state of Minnesotta.
