10. Ningen
Mythical creatures of the Antarctic, Ningen are supposed gigantic humanoids said to have been spotted by research ships. Described as being human-shaped, they are sometimes seen with fins or a large, mermaid-like tail instead of legs. But their bodies are mostly smooth, with only their eyes and mouths giving any feature to their faces.
9. Loch Ness Monster
Just because you can’t make the trip to Loch Ness in Scotland doesn’t mean you can’t catch a glimpse of one of the most famous lake monsters in the world. Thanks to a British man who was using Google Earth to search the site’s satellite imagery, the legendary Loch Ness monster has apparently been found.
8. Kraken
Which story is easier to believe? The fact that a giant creature spotted on Google Earth could possibly be the mythical Kraken or that it is a creature that is believed to have gone extinct 65 million years ago? Spotted swimming off the coast of Deception Island near Antarctica, a strange anomaly that looks strikingly similar to the mythical giant squid was spotted by conspiracy theorists. Stretching 100 feet from head to end, the creature is shown causing a massive disturbance in the ocean.
7. Ancient Termite Mounds
Though not some mythical creature, a strange phenomena spotted on Google Earth gives insight into some strange 4000-year-old structures that are so large, they can be seen from space. Found in northeastern Brazil, they are one of the largest and strangest engineered structures on earth - and they were built by termites.
6. Corfu Island Creature
The strange, smooth-skinned image of an underwater creature in Corfu, Greece has stumped tourists and cryptid-hunters alike. While this wasn’t found via Google Earth, I thought it was weird enough to tell you about it! While on a boat cruise, a man named Harvey Robertson was snapping photos inside a cave when something strange from the deep came to the surface.
5. Bigfoot
One of the most elusive creatures in the cryptid world, sightings of Bigfoot have been reported throughout the Pacific Northwest, Northern California and even across North America. But the question of whether the legendary Sasquatch is real was stoked again when a video posted on YouTube showed shots taken from Google Earth of a mysterious dark shape lurking next to the TransCanada Highway in British Columbia.
4. Tardigrades
While these critters weren’t found by a satellite, they were actually ON a satellite!! Tardigrades are tiny animals, about 1 mm long that look kind of like a cross between a teddy bear and a caterpillar. A team of Japanese scientists in Antarctica came upon some moss with these creatures on it. So they froze them in a freezer at -4 degrees Fahrenheit. This was in 1983.
3. Maori Dragon
Off the coast of New Zealand, a mysterious lake creature was spotted by an engineer who was using Google Earth to research for an upcoming holiday. A large unexplained wake was discovered by Pita Witehira in Oke Bay, an area on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. A long swirl spotted in the bay is believed to have been left by a creature measuring almost 40 feet in length. But is this creature real or just an anomaly in the water?
2. Merseyside Shark
Another unexpected find on Google Earth came about when a web surfer in England spotted a huge animal lurking near a dock in Merseyside, England. Larger than some of the boats nearby, the object could possibly be a basking shark, according to a local marine biologist. It isn’t unheard-of that such a shark, which can grow up to 35 feet, could be spotted in the area. In 2006, a 7-tonne whale ended up in the Thames.
1. Canada’s Loch Ness Monster
The Ogopogo is a lake monster reported to live in Canada, in the Okanagan Lake. This image spotted on Google Earth is said to be the outline of the serpent found near Mission Creek.
