Torje Fagertun Spilde – better-known by his Third Attempt production moniker – has routinely amazed with his prolific output since emerging as a creative force a little over two years ago. Now a beloved Beatservice mainstay, the quality, scope and volume of work produced by the 25-year-old artist has seen his reputation soar at a rate that can only be described as meteoric. The EP opens with the feel-good flex of ’Checking You Out’. Here, amorous vocals saunter over a sumptuous bed of infectious guitar, cinematic strings and driving bass before the dainty lead melody ushers the groove into a floor-focused breakdown. Next, Third Attempt illustrates his love of dusty-fingered sample manipulation on ’Teach Me’, where smokey vocals drift across waves of twinkling keys, funk guitars and impactful horns as tightly-spun rhythm and bass guide the tempo. ’Turbo’ continues the funk-flecked theme, with crisp drums driving mesmerising guitar licks, spacey synths and stirring chord progressions.
