Doughboys - And Dough (1942)

Titles read: “DOUGHBOYS - AND DOUGH“. Northern Ireland. Various shots show cooks of the United States Army baking white loaves of bread. Entire process is seen, from the mixing of the flour - “the real old-fashioned white stuff they used to put in our loaves“ - to the kneading and baking. Numerous freshly-baked loaves are turned out of their tins (mmm, I can almost smell them!) and served to GIs at a mess table. Commentator says “If you are inclined to be envious of the doughboys’ dough, perhaps you should remember that new white bread did sometimes give you indigestion“. Note: in Britain during the Second World War white bread was largely unavailable. Many people tasted brown bread for the first time during this era. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
