The Altar Billies are a trio from Orange County California fronted by guitarist/vocalist Michael W Stand. Rounding out the group are Johnny X on upright and Chuck Cummings on Drums. The group covers many classics hits, as well as newly penned originals. Altar Billies are one of many groups that are taking a “liking“ to a new and rapidly growing alt country/rockabilly/ psychobilly trend (Punktry as they like to call it).
The group has been playing all over Southern California for about 7 years. They perform for a large variety of audiences both young and old. The Altar billies have played at such venues as the Anaheim House of Blues, The NAMM show in Anaheim, The Gretsch “Twang-o-Rama, Rhythm and Rods Rockabilly Festival, The Observatory in Costa Mesa, Orange Street Fair, 5 and Diner Rockabilly Bash, The Audiofeed Music Festival, as well as many clubs in the OC area. They have also opened several times for local OC icon Big Sandy, as well as for Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats..
The group has released several singles recorded live at NRG studios in Hollywood (recording studio for such acts as No Doubt and John Fogerty). Both “Hold on“ and “You Can’t Look Up, when you’re Look’n Down“ are available on itunes and on youtube via the “Altar Billies Youtube Channel.“
Now with the release of their new full length project “Head’n Out West“ in July of 2014, the band is ready and geared up to explore and expand into new musical territory. Each song on “Head’n out West“ is a testament to the band’s firm believe in God, family and country. There is more to this group than meets the eye, as the 14 songs (plus a surprise reprise) seeks to establish the Altar Billies as a viable and serious rockabilly/ Americana act. Indeed “Head’n out West“ brings plenty to the table and more, in a “Spirit of lightening“ that will surely keep you rock’n, dance’n, shake’n and move’n.
The Altar Billies are proud to carry the rockabilly torch and keep this musical heritage alive and relevant. They are 3 swell guys that work hard, play together really well and have a good time in the process!
