King Stakh’s Wild Hunt by Belarus Free Theatre

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Observer on King Stakh’s Wild Hunt: “An ambitious hybrid – opera, play, multimedia show – it’s an awe-inspiring allegory without allegory’s consoling distance – a fairytale into which the living anguish of Ukraine and Belarus has been poured; a journey with no end in sight” King Stakh’s Wild Hunt is a thrilling gothic noir from Belarus Free Theatre, directed by its co-founding Artistic Directors, Natalia Kaliada and Nicolai Khalezin, and based on the celebrated novel by Uladzimir Karatkievich. Featuring a brand-new score by composer, Olga Padhaiskaya, King Stakh’s Wild Hunt unites a cast of long-time BFT ensemble members with exiled musicians from Ukraine and Belarus in BFT’s first-ever foray into opera in its two-decade-long history. The Wild Hunt is a motif that appears in Northern and Eastern European folklore. Karatkievich places it at the heart of a story that combines mysticism and reality, love and hatred, nobility and cowardice, history and modernity. The Wild Hunt reminds us that the past is not dead; good can only prevail when people unite to overthrow evil. As Andreï understood, its relevance is undeniable. The Wild Hunt runs here in Europe today, and we must do everything in our collective power to stop it in its tracks. We must stand together against war and oppression. As a Christmas message of hope to our audience, especially those affected by war and dictatorship, we offer this free broadcasting of the sold-out, highly acclaimed Premiere of King Stakh’s Wild Hunt filmed on the Barbican main stage in London in September 2023. The video is exclusively available on Belarus Free Theatre’s official YouTube channel, from 18:00 until 24:00 only.
