The story goes: One of the top German government officials asked the German Olympic rep who on the German team had no chance of winning a medal. Frank Wieneke in judo was the reply. Fine, that’s the day I’ll take my family to Disneyland. Wieneke went on to beat Adams for the gold in a year when everyone thought Adams would be a shoo in for Gold.
