Jesus Loves Even Me - a Harpsichord Hymn

The text and music of this hymn was written by Philip P. Bliss (1838 – 1876) and published in 1871. Bliss composed several well-known hymns and published a number of Gospel song books during his short life. In 1874 Dwight L. Moody asked him to join him in full-time evangelistic work. From then until his death two years later, Bliss served with Moody as a special singer and song leader. During the many evangelistic crusades, he noticed that the hymn “Oh, How I Love Jesus” was sung quite often. He began considering why so much emphasis was put on his poor love for Jesus instead of Jesus’s great love for him. As a result, he wrote the hymn “Jesus Loves Even Me”. Philip Bliss and his wife were tragically killed while traveling by train from Pennsylvania to Chicago on December 29, 1876.
