Ragas are time-specific, they correspond to the morning, the afternoon or the evening. Some of the most beautiful raags are evening raags. Each mode and musical note of the raag is deeply connected, corresponding to subtle frequencies in nature as it passes through the cycle of a single day. The great medieval composer, Tansen, was said to have been able to light lamps and invoke rainfall by playing certain raags.
