Deadly Texas wildfire engulfs Panhandle killing at least two as largest blaze in state history
A massive wildfire continued to burn through the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday (February 28), forcing widespread evacuations and triggering power outages as firefighters struggled to contain the flames.
The Smokehouse Creek Fire, now the largest among multiple wildfires in northern Texas, has rapidly expanded since igniting on Monday (February 26) afternoon, exacerbated by red-flag conditions indicating extreme fire behavior.
As of Wednesday, the fire has burned 500,000 acres, which is now the largest in Texas history according to local media.
