Options for this story This is from a grind (whale hunt) on nov 1st. near Klaksvík in the Faroe Islands. 80 whales were caught, killed and distributed between those who took part and the nearby villages. These whales were distributed evenly to almost people. Everybody - from baby to old, gets the same share. Notice how fast the whale is killed with the special knife that is driven directly in and cuts the spine. After that they cut the throat so it can bleed properly, and after that they transport the whales to a place where they can be cut and distributed. The killing is as any killing of animals very bloody, but as you also can see, it is very swift. Some people say that we should buy meat in the supermarket instead. Well the cows, chicken and pigs that end up there have also been killed. And have have lived miserable lives in animal concentration camps, force fed a diet that is not natural for them and pumped full of antibiotics to keep them alive until they are transported in trucks to the slaughter. These whales live their free lives in the seas and we only take a tiny portion of them making it a very sustainable source of food for us. We know it is sustainable because we have registered every single whale that has been killed here for several hundred years and the number has been very constant every year and the species is in no way endangered by the number we eat. The only threat to the whale and this age old way of getting meat on the table, is the pollution of the oceans, done in great deal by the same people who are telling us not to eat whale. 1. november varð grind funnin út fyri Skarð á Kunoynni.
