As European leaders move to woo China, Italy may be mulling an exit from Beijing’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI). Reports say that Italy is looking to strengthen its economic ties with China’s arch-rival Taiwan. Italy is seeking to attract the island’s Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd (TSMC) to set up a foundry in the Veneto region. Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on April 14 that PM Meloni is assessing Italy’s partnership with China in the BRI.
