Students’ Rag - Brighton (1920-1929)

Students’ Rag - Brighton, East Sussex. A group of university students in costumes gathered round a truck w/ big sign reading ’Flying Squad’ on the side and a cage like a jail cell on the truck bed. Some students in uniform pretend to arrest another guy and throw him in the jail. Next some of the students pose on a primitive looking vehicle w/ big smokestacks etc. Then comes the really funny part of their performance. A group of students in a variety of bizarre costumes including several boys in drag; play w/ a giant ball c. 4-5 ft. in diameter. They roll it around the big open square as the surrounding crowd watches. They throw the thing up in the air and bounce it above them; they all go running to chase it as it bounces away from them; etc. Various other chaos ensues, including people walking about on stilts - playing football (?) while crowd watches.
