Spanish Refugees In France (1938)

Border of Spain / France. Several shots of the mountainous countryside around the frontier of France and Spain. Lines of refugees from the Spanish Civil War make their way into a French town having come over the mountains; women and children followed by men. Crowds of people sit on the grass in the sun and have a sleep or eat some food. Brief shots of piles of weapons and ammunition that the French authorities have taken from the men. They are given the opportunity of returning to fight for General Franco’s Government. Lines of men in uniform walk past French officials at desks in the street and board trains to go back to the war. As the train moves off the men hang out of the windows with clenched fists. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
