A physical two-way center with a nonstop motor, Michigan Wolverines’ freshman Matt Beniers (#10) is one of the top forwards available for the 2021 NHL draft. Beniers is a Boston-area native who played for the U.S. National Team Development program and in January won gold with Team USA at the under-20 world junior hockey championship.
Beniers (through Feb. 18) is tied for eighth among NCAA first-year players with a points-per-game average (14 points in 16 games), but eight of his 14 were primary points at 5v5. He’s also made significant improvements at the faceoff circle, winning 54 percent of his last 76 draws.
