The protesters broke down barriers at the entrance to the Cenotaph and started having pitched battles with officers, who then formed a physical barrier to separate them.
Officers hit out at those who pushed through with batons, while some protesters threw bottles.
The group shouted “you’re a disgrace” and “you’re not English anymore” at police, also adding “we want our country back”.
At 11am, a two-minute silence was held to mark Armistice Day and a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Cenotaph.
The crowds of protestors cheered at the military during the service at the Cenotaph. After the two-minute silence they began to quietly disperse, with one heard asking “where are these Palestinian protestors then”?
Hundreds of thousands of pro-Palestine protesters gathered at the Marble Arch for a three-mile march to Nine Elms.
