It’s a long way to Tipperary - Alexander Alexandrov 1945 (Not Das Boot)

This is the oldest version of Tipperary sung by the Red Army Choir, known at this time as the Red Banner Song and Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Alexander Alexandrov. It is a Aprelevka recording with Oleg Razumovsky as the soloist. He sang with the Ensemble from the 1940s through to the 1960s. If, German submariners played Tipperary, it was not the version used on “Das Boot“, that is a later recording by the Alexandrov Ensemble (1960s) and this version was not recorded with Alexandrov until 1945. It is improbable that, as much as folklore now demands it, that German submariners did not play any version conducted by Alexandrov. I cannot find another version sung by a Russian Choir. The earliest Russian recording is by Nikolay Monakhov recorded in 1914, entitled “Far from my Village“.
