The Danish Navy has detained the Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3, which is suspected of damaging telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea.
As reported by the online publication Defense24, the detention took place on the evening of November 19 in the area of Danish territorial waters, in the Danish Strait at the exit from the Great Belt. The detention was carried out by the patrol vessel P525 of the Danish Navy. The Chinese vessel was leaving the Russian port of Ust-Luga.
There is no official statement from the Danish authorities yet, but the Chinese vessel is suspected of damaging telecommunications cables lying on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It was reported that the vessel passed both in the area of damaged cables between Finland and Germany, the so-called C-Lion1, and between cables connecting Sweden and Lithuania.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reacted sharply to the incident, saying it was not an accident but deliberate sabotage.
