Titles read: “IN THE SCOTT COUNTRY“.
Lothian and Borders, Scotland.
Various shots of the monument to Sir Walter Scott in the gardens in Princes Street, Edinburgh, and L/Ss of the city.
Near Peebles, we see sheep grazing on the banks of the River Tweed and Neidpath Castle, with the ancient Peel Tower, dating from the thirteenth century. General views of the river from the castle.
Several shots of the exterior of Abbotsford, Sir Walter Scott’s home, and Dryburgh Abbey, where Sir Walter was buried. A woman walks towards the cross monument to the men who served under Sir Douglas Haig who is also buried here.
From the summit of the hill at Bemersyde, we look at the valley of the Tweed. This was apparently Scott’s favourite view, and commentator says his funeral procession halted at this spot, “as if to give the great man a last glimpse of the scene he loved so well“.
Note: for search purposes - “Auld Reekie“ was how Scott described this area.
