Cannon’s Ninja Movie Saga: Enter, Revenge, Domination
In the 1980s, The Cannon Group was beloved by action fans for their constant flow of B-action movies. The series that put them on the map was their classic Ninja Trilogy. Beginning with 1981’s Enter the Ninja with a badly-dubbed Franco Nero, 1983’s Revenge of the Ninja, which elevated the previous movie’s villain, Sho Kosugi, to the lead, was a smash. Today, it’s considered one of the best American-made martial arts movies. The series ended with the demented Ninja III: The Domination, which plays like a mash-up of Flashdance, The Exorcist and a Ninja movie. In this special episode of Reel Action, our man Travis Hopson takes a deep dive into the series and speaks with director Sam Firstenberg, who tells us about making Revenge and Domination with his frequent star Sho Kosugi.
