Elton John - Song for Guy (1978)

The final track from Elton John’s 1978 album “A Single Man“ and also released as a single. It did not chart in the U.S., but became one of his biggest hits in Europe. One of Elton’s personal favorites, it continued to be released from time to time as a B-side to a single, or on compilations such as “Love Songs“ in 1996. The instrumental song was composed about death and when Elton heard about the death of Rocket Records messenger boy Guy getting killed in a motorcycle crash on the same day he wrote the song, he then named the song “Song for Guy“ in tribute to him. In the video there are pictures of the actual US release of the 45 RPM single from 1979, which has been in my collection since 1979! And also a picture of my autographed CD cover. This was the very first autograph I received personally from Elton John at a concert. I have gotten quite a few more since then! Song for Guy ©1978 Big Pig Music Ltd.
