According to Richards, the iconic guitar riff that opens the song came to him in a dream or a semi-conscious state. The story goes that Richards woke up in the middle of the night, grabbed a cassette recorder from his bedside table, played the riff, and mumbled some lyrics. In the morning, when he listened back to the recording, he couldn’t quite recall where the riff came from but realized its potential.
