New BYD Tang DM-i in-depth Walkaround The BYD Tang is a crossover SUV manufactured by BYD Auto, available in three different powertrain options: all-electric, plug-in hybrid, or conventional ICE vehicle. The Tang DM-i, equipped with a turbocharged engine-powered plug-in hybrid system, is available in two models with a pure electric range of 52 km (32 mi) and 112 km (70 mi) respectively, offering a combined cruising range of 1,050 km (652 mi). The vehicle features a lithium iron phosphate “blade battery“ and has a fuel consumption rate of 5.3 L/100 km (44 mpg‑US; 19 km/L) and 5.5 L/100 km (43 mpg‑US; 18 km/L) for the two trim models respectively. The Tang DM-i can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 8.5 seconds. To achieve high thermal efficiency, the turbo engine is specifically designed to accommodate BYD’s DM-i hybrid technology. The engine has a compression ratio (CR) of 15.5, an increased B/S (Bore to Stroke) ratio, an Atkinson cycle for improved combustion efficiency, an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, and a series of friction-reducing measures. The Tang has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm (111 in), a length of 4,870 mm (191.7 in), a width of 1,950 mm (76.8 in), and a height of 1,725 mm (67.9 in).
