Building a Joule Thief to run LEDs from aluminum tabs and zinc screws
At the Unperfekthaus Schaltwerk electronics meetup studio in Essen Germany, Dominic Jais and T.H. Culhane further explore the use of Joule Thief circuits to create useful light using aluminum can tabs and zinc scrap metal (screws, pipes) as the source of electrons. This is a Solar CITIES innovation that Culhane has been sharing throughout the developing world, helping to wean people away from expensive batteries that are short lived and relying on “garbage“ to produce electricity instead.
