American Memorial Fund Luncheon (1948)

Location of events unknown. Two men shake hands as they walk up a flight of stairs. Men and women climb the stairs, all very smartly dressed. Speeches are made. Presentations are made. The men and women are sitting in a meeting room around long tables. C/Us of various guests listening to speeches and applauding. Shot of a clergyman. Hands are shaken as people leave. Combined sound from 01:29:11. Speech is made addressing “Your Excellency, my Lord Mayor etc.“ The luncheon relates to “The Chapel Fund“. Mr Arthur Rank and Mr Philip Walter are thanked for their contributions. Mr Rank makes a speech about what a pleasure it is for the ordinary man in the street to be able to contribute to the American Memorial Fund via the Odeon and Gaumont cinemas. He hands two cheques to the Chairman. Mr Walter hands over money from his chain of cinemas (?). The money will contribute to the building of a memorial chapel commemorating American soldiers killed during World War 2. The appeal was launched
