La Vuelta 2023, Stage 1 (Barcelona - Barcelona), course, route, profile, animation

“Saturday, 26 August The Tour of Spain opens in Barcelona. On the first day, the riders complete a 14.8 kilometre team time trial through the city. The finish is at the foot of Montjuïc. The ascent to the Montjuïc castle is not yet part of the team time trial; the riders will tackle this on stage 2 of the Vuelta. The route of the opening time trial is flat to (slightly) hilly. Last year the Vuelta started in Utrecht and also then the race was opened with a team time trial. Jumbo-Visma was the fastest team and because Robert Gesink crossed the finish line first, he took the first red jersey. Jumbo-Visma kept it for a few days, and every day a different rider was allowed to wear the jersey. The teams start at the Olympic Port, where the sailing races were held at the 1992 Games, and whizz through the streets of the Catalan capital on a fast and technical circuit. The split time is measured after 9.6 kilometres and the finish line is on the Avenida de la Reina Maria at the foot of Montjuïc.“ ( & Routes ’n’ Maps ’n’ Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
