I know the story, respect the game, but I was a Nintendo kid growing up, so I never got to appreciate FF7 in its time. Just wanted to say that so you understand the perspective I’m coming from. I understand if there’s things about that bother fans of the original but for me, all in all, this is now one of my top 3 Final Fantasy games if not my favorite. I was lost in this world for the past 5 days. I couldn’t wait to keep playing and my mind was consumed with this beautiful world. As for gameplay mechanics, it feels much like FF7 Remake but just more refined and fluid. They’ve found the perfect blend of strategy and real-time action that never gets dull. I played it on normal and it felt like the perfect level of difficulty for my taste. It wasn’t hard by any means, but many of the boss fights required me to figure out their weaknesses, time my blocks, and use the right materia to get the job done. As for the story, I felt the overarching narrative takes a backseat in this game. By the end, I didn’t really care about what’s happening to the planet, didn’t care about Sephiroth, about Shinra. The main story was just was background noise for me. Usually that’d be a terrible thing to say, but I feel FF7 Remake did a good job of setting up the stakes of our mission. This was, after all, originally all in one game so that dynamic makes sense to me. With that being said, I do feel it’s an absolutely necessity to play the first game to get the best out of the second. That may seem obvious, and most people probably will play both, but I recently read Square Enix say that you don’t need to play the first to enjoy the second. I firmly disagree with that. I think it’s a necessity. At the very least, to familiarize yourself with the world/story of Remake. For me, the real reason to play and explore is expand the relationships between all the party members and unravel their stories one side mission at a time. I ended up caring about every single one of the party members (even Yuffie!) and couldn’t wait to find out more about their back stories; to unravel the tragedies and triumphs that motivated them. Ultimately I only cared about saving the world because I NEEDED to save them. FF7 Remake lacked some of that charm, which makes sense since the group hadn’t really meshed yet. This is the most I’ve felt attached to a party of heroes since Mass Effect 2! That’s not to say they were the only interesting thing about the game. The world is vibrant, fun and full of things to do. There’s minigames galore, they’re at every turn to keep you engaged in this colorful world. Exploring is almost always reward with more tidbits of interesting lore. As always, some NPCs are more interesting than others, but all in all the side stories are worth your time. It feels much more alive in a way that FF7 Remake never did. Overall this playthrough took 65 hours. I did the entire main story, the majority of the side missions that built the relationship with party members, and about 50% of world intel, 20% of protorelics. There’s still much more to do: I could easily get another 40 hours out of the game. 9.5/10 00:00 Prologue 14:20 Chapter 1 - Fall of a Hero 02:11:04 Chapter 2 - A New Journey Begins 05:46:36 Chapter 3 - Deeper Into Darkness 06:58:24 Chapter 4 - A Dawn of a New Era 10:43:33 Chapter 5 - Blood in the Water 11:55:01 Chapter 6 - Fool’s Paradise 14:52:47 Chapter 7 - Those Left Behind 17:13:46 Chapter 8 - Al the Gitters 19:47:23 Chapter 9 - The Planet Stirs 24:29:47 Chapter 10 - Watcher of the Vale 27:22:37 Chapter 11 - The Long Shadow of Shinra 32:05:43 Chapter 12 - A Golden Key 36:04:08 Chapter 13 - Where Angels Fear to Tread 40:22:32 Chapter 14 - End of the World _________________________________ 📱 SOCIAL MEDIAS 📱 ► Tik Tok: @glplayground ► DISCORD: ► Facebook: ► Twitter: ► Instagram: ► Instagram: ► Outro Song: _________________________________ 📋 HASHTAGS 📋 #finalfantasy7rebirth #fullgame #fullgame
