Laguna Beach Firestorm, October 27, 1993

On October 27, 1993, a firestorm began in Laguna Canyon that swept south into the City of Laguna Beach. The fire would eventually swing northwest into Newport Beach and Irvine. This video begins at about 5:30 PM Pacific Time, when I arrived home and began a VHS tape recording. It includes local news coverage from KCBS Channel 2, KNBC Channel 4, KTLA Channel 5, KABC Channel 7, and the OCN cable TV channel produced by the Orange County Register newspaper. According to the Laguna Beach County Water District, the firestorm destroyed 366 homes, damaged over 500 more homes and burned over 17,000 acres of brushland.
