“The Coasts” is an instrumental concept album performed by bass and drums, with an accompanying short story told in chapters through animated text. Recorded mostly live, the eight songs were conceptualized alongside a story. This story found its way to realization through a new format that bridges the LP and streaming eras: video liner notes. The goal in creating a debut record was to use the bass guitar and drums as fully actualized compositional mediums—leaving no part of the tonal spectrum (melody or dynamics) behind. “The Coasts” marks an achievement for the bass and drums duo not just as an independent release, but also as a new form of progressive rock utilizing a new format for presentation.
