Rear-Admiral Daniel Hagari, the chief military spokesman, said the huge number of reservists had been called up by the military since Saturday, suggesting preparations for a possible invasion, although no such plans have been officially confirmed. “We have never drafted so many reservists on such a scale,” he said. “We are going on the offensive.” At the same time, political leaders say they are escalating measures to cut off the Hamas-controlled enclave. Yoav Gallant, the defence minister, called for a “complete siege”.
