Julia Hartley-Brewer talks to Former Member of the European Parliament Ben Habib after a people-smuggling gang leader responsible for moving 10,000 migrants to the UK was jailed. Gheorghe Nica was jailed for 27 years for the manslaughter of the victims, who died in sweltering conditions as they were transported in an airtight container from Zeebrugge in Belgium to Purfleet on 2019. Julia says: “He gets given asylum, sets up a store and then starts bringing tens of thousands of people over.
