End of Hibernation - 1951 | The Archivist Presents | #284

My colleague Anne has owned a tortoise called Victor for over 50 years. He came out of his annual hibernation on Monday. Perhaps it is time we all came out of hibernation? Scores of tortoises have been rescued by the RSPCA from a rubbish dump in Plaistow. They were discovered by 10-year-old Brenda Jones and 9-year-old Mabel Shipp who dialled 999. As a reward, they received a medal and one pound. Cut story - KS. SCU scores tortoises on floor. RSPCA officer inspects some of them. Inside schoolroom, Mabel Shipp & Brenda Jones march onto platform. RSPCA officer presents them with medals & hands them each a one pound note. Girls clapping. Boys clapping.
