Buffalo Dance (1894). According to Edison film historian Charles Musser, this film and others shot on the same day (see also Sioux Ghost Dance) featured Native American dancers from Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, and constitutes the Native American’s first appearance before a motion picture camera. This short is one of many short films created by Edison Studios from 1894-1911. The films were viewed in a Kinetoscope, this device was installed in penny arcades or Kinetoscope arcades where people could pay to view short, simple films.
