I’m about to release a CD entirely composed of ricercars. Jacobo Fogliano is one of the earliest composers featured. His music is remarkably expressive and varied. Here’s just one short piece, using the ottavino, on which about one third of the music is played (two different harpsichords are also used). FAQ. Q. You’re generally playing instruments made by yourself. How many have you made? A. Around three hundred of various types, over nearly fifty years. Q. Which do you prefer – making or playing? A. Neither, but I’ve just finished my last instrument, so from now on it’s playing and teaching.I also enjoy writing. My book, published in 2010, was very satisfying, and hundreds of purchasers have thanked me for it.
