Taliban takes Kandahar, tells Americans to get out

The Afghan government is asking the US Defense Department for billions of dollars to help execute his proposed six-month plan to stabilize the country. Local security forces, surrendering or fleeing in droves, are leaving US arms and equipment in Taliban hands as the latter continues its recapture of power. Kabul is expected to fall within 90 days, and militia groups who oppose the Taliban are being tapped to defend the city by an increasingly desperate government.
