New York City Drowning in Floodwaters as Rains Swamp Subways, Streets, and Railways
A torrential rainstorm swept through New York City on Friday, causing widespread flooding and major disruptions to transportation and infrastructure. The National Weather Service reported that over 9 inches of rain fell in some parts of the city, making it one of the wettest days in decades.
Flooding was reported in all five boroughs, with subway stations, streets, and railways being particularly hard hit. Videos posted to social media showed floodwaters rushing through subway stations, submerging vehicles, and causing commuter chaos. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was forced to suspend service on several subway lines due to the flooding.
In addition to the subway disruptions, the rainstorm also caused delays and cancellations on Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) trains. Several roads were also closed due to flooding, and some schools were forced to dismiss early.
