Early music specialists the Dolmetsch Ensemble turn their attention to Tchaikovsky’s epic music, armed with nothing more than a few recorders and children’s pop-guns (for the military cannon of the ’1812 Overture’). This performance was recorded live at the Hoffnung Music Festival, Royal Royal Festival Hall, London, November 1958. Gerrard Hoffnung (1925-1959) was, amongst other things, a cartoonist for the satirical magazine ’Punch’.
