Rolling Stones ~ Brown Sugar... Flatbed Truck Tour Announcement, 5th Ave, NYC

Leave it to the Rolling Stones to make a scene out of a tour announcement. On May 1, 1975, the band held a “press conference” at the 5th Avenue Hotel in New York. Reporters gathered in the hotel, ready to hear a big announcement from the Stones. However, the action didn’t happen inside the hotel. The band never even went inside. They were outside, playing on a flatbed truck rolling down the street. The truck stopped in front of the hotel just long enough to treat the press and some lucky onlookers on the street to a live rendition of “Brown Sugar.” When they stopped playing, Mick Jagger tossed out flyers to the crowd with the dates for their “Tour of the Americas” (which never did make it to South America, only the U.S. and Canada).
