Last year I flew 6 segments on Southwest in a single day when I flew on Triple Crown One from Providence, RI to Seattle, WA on one giant 4,300 mile through flight. See here: After successfully completing those two challenges, it was now time to try for 8 segments in a single day! And not only 8 segments in a single day, but 8 segments without changing time zones to gain time back. After scouring schedules I settled on a routing and set the date as August 16, 2023. The routing would be TUL-HOU-CRP-HOU-SAT-DAL-HOU-DAL-TUL. And you may be wondering... Why that routing? This routing, if everything operated perfectly, allowed me to fit all 8 segments in, while also hitting two other personal avgeek goals. Fly on Southwest Airlines flight 1 from HOU-CRP, and fly the original Southwest Airlines cocktail napkin triangle between Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston. So, I’d not only be trying to break my own single day segment record, but I’d also be recreating the original Southwest Airlines flights!
