The big MAC comes back! Railfanning a short day at FUL and BP ft. CSX SD70AC 4754, hornshows, & MORE
Man what a day! On a cloudy, Sunday morning, I got a heads up that a CSX SD70AC was tied down somewhere along the SBD subdivision between Esperanza and Buena Park. I thought I’d maybe see the train with the CSX later at Fullerton during the afternoon, so what did I do? I went to Fullerton to hang out for a decent amount of time. Right when I arrived, I was greeted by a tied down port stack with BNSF C44-9W #1023 as rear-DPU facing out. I was able to get some good photos of that. 5 minutes later, southbound Amtrak 770 came with a friendly crew. It departed Fullerton with a good amount of horn taps from the engineer. And because it was Sunday, that means it was dead action day on the SBD sub, but I was able to score an eastbound just after 770 passed. It had 4 BNSF with all the engines being just ordinary gevos. And after that freight, it was pretty much passenger the whole time. First came northbound Amtrak 769, then Metrolink Southbound 662 with a full ribbon set, and after, southbound Amtrak 774 with 6951 trailing. At that point, I was losing hope, but a good buddy of mine came out with a heads up and said that the CSX was tied down somewhere by CP (Control Point) Basta. So, with an hour left of time to Railfan, I tell my dad, and we were off to a spot to see the CSX. We arrived at the spot where the CSX was and we didn’t see it. Little did I know, if my dad just drove a little past a curve, we would’ve seen it, but we saw it later. However, there was a port stack stopped at Buena Park station itself so we thought that was the train. I told my dad to check some spots to see if we could find the power, and we were driving and driving and driving, until, we finally found the signals that BNSF port stacks sometimes stop at, and when we arrived, we were disappointed. It was all BNSF with 4 gevos. At this point, I thought it was over, but then, I told my dad to go back to the same spot, but drive all the way down, after some anxiousness and anticipation, right as my dad drove around the curve, there it was, CSX rebuild flared SD70MAC, now SD70AC, number #4754 was sitting at a perfect spot next to a good place to park. It was shiny, clean, and beautifully painted by the striking blue and yellow paint in the YN3C “Website logo” font that said CSX with “”. I crossed the road safely with a safe distance from the tracks to take awesome videos and photos of this iconic piece of CSX, a flared SD70AC (SD70MAC’s flared were more iconic). After spending a good amount of time with the CSX SD70AC, it was time to head home and end with a banger. Anyways hope you enjoyed the video, and till then, I’ll see you guys down the line!!
