Blausee (Kandergrund) The deep blue mountain lake is one of the most famous mountain lakes in Switzerland and is equally popular as a photo, fishing or sightseeing destination. The lake is located in an almost fabulous protected forest area between Kandergrund in the north and Kandersteg in the south. The village of Mitholz is located a little east of the Blausee. Since the lake is fed by underground springs, the water is crystal clear and you can usually see the bottom of the lake, although sometimes it is more than 12 meters underwater. The lake is located in a beautiful forest environment in a natural park. Hiking trails criss-cross the park, and manicured barbecue and picnic areas are available for day trips. You can almost sail across the lake in a glass bottom boat. The lake and the park are illuminated at night. The natural park is enclosed by a fence, and from March to November the entrance is paid, including to the lake itself.
