Referee Sikora had Robinson ahead 63-57, Judge McAdams had him in front 65-55, and Judge Klein had him on top 70-50. The United Press reported: “At the close of the eighth round, the United Press had LaMotta leading, six rounds to two. However, as LaMotta tired and Robinson concentrated on an up-sweeping attack of uppercuts, bolos, and shovel-hooks against his bobbing opponent, Jake began to wither under the rising fire.“ The Associated Press scored the fight eight rounds for Robinson, two for LaMotta and two even. Due to the tremendous beating LaMotta endured in the later rounds, the fight became known as the “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.“
