Many people believe the US presence in West Asia is one of the main reasons for tensions and insecurities in this region. After the assassination of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, withdrawal of US troops from West Asia has become more and more a public sentiment not only among the people in this region but even in the US. Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khamenei in his remarks after the assassination of General Soleimani, stated that the US presence in the region must end. The participation of millions of Iranians in the funeral of Soleimani sent a clear message to Americans. Iraqis also took a strong stance concerning the US presence. A few days after the Iraqi Parliament passed a resolution calling on the government to expel foreign troops from the country, millions of Iraqis took to the streets to call for the removal of US troops.
