‘My favourite Russian dish is pelmeni,’ says Miss Russia 2024 Valentina Alekseeva from Chuvashia. The girl celebrated her 18th birthday in August, entered a Russian Medical University, and in November will perform at the Miss Universe contest in Mexico. However, more and more Russians are becoming disillusioned with the international competition. The status of the beauty pageant was particularly shaken last year when it accepted a transgender woman as a contestant, a representative of the Netherlands.
